Designing Your Life (DYL) Coaching
Designing Your Life coaching applies design thinking principles to career and work-life decisions. Instead of trying to find one “perfect answer,” we explore multiple possibilities, prototype small experiments, and move forward with greater clarity and a stronger sense of meaning.
Problems You're Facing
You might:
-
feel stuck or frustrated with your current career direction
-
sense that your role no longer reflects what you stand for
-
are considering a career transition or job change but lack clarity about the next step
-
feel professionally successful, yet internally uncertain about what comes next
-
want to explore a wider range of possibilities for your work life
-
find yourself overthinking decisions instead of moving forward
How It Works
Introductory Fit Call
We start with a 30-minute introductory conversation to understand your situation and see whether this approach is the right fit for you.
Coaching Sessions
Structured coaching sessions where we use DYL tools and exercises to explore possibilities and design concrete next steps.
Between-Session Exploration
Short exercises and reflections between sessions help you gather insights from your real life, not only from sessions.
Coaching Hub
A shared space where we track and share exercises, resources, progress, and feedback during the program.
What You'll Get
-
You’ll gain greater clarity about what energizes and motivates you at work, along with a clearer personal narrative about where you are and where you want to go next.
-
You’ll leave with practical next steps for testing new possibilities and shaping work that feels more meaningful and impactful.
-
The broader goal of the DYL approach is not just to solve one career question, but to develop the ability to navigate future career decisions more consciously and creatively.
Program Options
DYL 1: 1 Coaching
Bi-weekly 60-minute sessions over 3–6 months. Typically 6–10 sessions, depending on your goals and pace.
DYL Coaching Circle
Small group coaching with 4–6 participants. Six 90-minute sessions, bi-weekly. Participants act as a design team, helping each other generate ideas, perspectives, and prototypes.
Both formats are available online or in person.
As a Certified DYL Coach, I support clients in using design thinking ideas, tools and exercises to navigate and redesign their work-life.
After two decades in people development, I’ve seen this repeatedly in practice: people can make real turnarounds, even in complex situations. There are almost always more options than we initially see. DYL is about exploring those options, prototyping small steps, and moving forward with greater clarity, especially during career transitions or when feeling stuck.
I strongly believe work is an important part of life (not just a source of income). It can bring meaning, growth and impact. At the same time, it shouldn’t quietly take over the whole picture. We don’t need to build our entire life around work. We can design work so that it supports the life we actually want.

Designing Your Life is the New York Times best-selling book based on the methodology that professors Bill Burnett and Dave Evans developed, and is taught in a class of the same name at Stanford University.
The Designing Your Life Coach Certification was designed for coaches, career counselors, HR professionals and mental health professionals interested in adding DYL ideas, tools, and exercises to their practice.
